After a long, hard winter spring has well and truly arrived at the heart of Europe. In true Continental style the Brusseloise are taking to the streets. Not in protest but celebration of the start of summer with the pavement terraces of every bar and restaurant bustling as soon as the sun breaks through.
Brussels sees several sporting highlights across the city this summer led by the visit of the Tour de France in early July. Athletics and equestrian events mark the calendar all offering very different alternatives for corporate meetings and events planners. Using the good supporting infrastructure of the city, Brussels is strongly behind the bidding for the joint Holland-Belgium hosting of the football World Cup in 2018 or 2022, and is also promoting itself as the alternative venue for athletes and supporters of the London 2012 Olympics.
Firmly on the agenda is the hosting of the Presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2010, which will put Brussels even more strongly on the international stage.
