Discover Groningen & The Dutch West-Frisian Islands

From August 21 to 23, Groningen Congres Bureau organized in collaboration with NBTC Belgium a discovery weekend of the Northern part of The Netherlands. On the agenda: Groningen and the Dutch West-Frisian Islands.

Groningen may not be the ‘top of mind destination’ when it comes to meetings or conventions but this historical city in the North does have an interesting mix of attractive features. There is a wide range of convention, meeting and congress facilities available, all of them located in or in the immediate vicinity of the city center. Combine this with the cozy cultural atmosphere of a university town and this compact city becomes a very attractive business destination.

With around 3400 hotel beds, Groningen can host intermediate to quite large conventions and congresses. Access is equally easy in Groningen: there is a train connection every 30 min directly from Schiphol airport. The national airport of Groningen has a daily connection with Rotterdam but is also able to take larger chartered carriers e.g. when flying in congress delegates and wanting to avoid hectic Schiphol.

And last but certainly not least as a plus: a professional conference organizer as the Groningen Congress Bureau with the necessary experience to guide and support you with every detail.

On the other hand…

The Dutch West-Frisian Islands: situated in the northern part of the Netherlands, a little over an hour from Amsterdam, easy to reach, with wonderful nature and a very typical atmosphere are a well-liked destination by Dutch companies. Corporates frequently organise short, active team buildings or hold inspiring meetings there. The destination turns out to be like a secret gem...well kept within ‘Holland’ boarders. Very few Belgian organisers ever set foot on the islands, so we noted.

Frisse Wind, our generous host during our stay, definitely made a change there!
As professional DMC specialised in organising company events, relation events, trainings, conferences, seminars, incentives, management gatherings and all kind of other group events on the 5 West Frisian Islands (Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog) Peter and Karin gave our Belgian planners a perfect glance of the possibilities of Terschelling island.

Frisse Wind (founded in 1992) offers made-to-measure service and takes care of the complete picture: trip, contents, accommodation, catering, program, support, invitation guidance and every other detail. Frisse Wind is by now a well known name in the Netherlands, the bureau works with many companies and other organisations from the entire country. Frisse Wind executes approximately 500 projects every year.

Golden Green Key certificates
Camillie Oostwegel Château Hotels

This Summer, the four Camille Oostwegel Château Hotels were awarded with a Golden Green Key certificate. This is the highest level of this international eco-label in the field of environmental protection.

Green Key
The Green Key® is a worldwide available eco-label awarded to leisure organisations, as hotels, youth hostels, conference- and holiday centres.
To obtain The Green Key one has to fulfill a list of environmental requirements which are contained in a number of criteria. Besides environmental requirements (e.g. to control the production of waste and the use of water, electricity, etc.), the criteria include requirements on policy, action plans, education and communication. Onsite checks are performed regularly on all Green Key owners.
Obtaining The Green Key marks the sense of responsibility an organisation has for its surroundings and society. The number of measures determine the level of the Green Key: bronze, silver or gold. Investigations have revealed that Green Key businesses use up to 20% less electricity, 25% less energy for heating, and 27% less water per guest.

Gold for Camille Oostwegel Château Hotels
ZooHotel Brughof, WinselerHof, Château St. Gerlach and Kruisherenhotel Maastricht, all received a golden certificate. Each hotel appointed a Green Key coordinator who is responsible for monitoring and improving environmental consciousness. The use of local ingredients and home grown produce, the environmental conscious purchase policy and transportation management awarded Camille Oostwegel Château Hotels the prestigious golden level certificates.

Beurs – World Trade Center completes renovation master plan!

With the opening of the Oscar Auditorium on the 13th of September 2009, Beurs-World Trade Center Rotterdam will gain an even larger diversity in her 37 conference rooms.

Beurs-WTC is a beautiful combination of history and future. For many years, the characteristic former stock market at the Coolsingel in Rotterdam, was intensively used to optimize national and international trade. After years of renovation of the National Monument Beurs-WTC - aiming to restore former glory - the opening of the Oscar Auditorium will serve as the completion of the master plan.

The Oscar Auditorium was one of the two cinemas that the building contained. This former cinema will be an excellent location for congresses, readings and movies.

Both the foyer and the WTC Art Gallery, adjacent to the auditorium, will be extended and will serve as a beautiful direct entrance towards the Oscar Auditorium. The WTC Art Gallery, offering a new arty décor every 6 to 8 weeks, can be perfectly used as a lunch- or reception area combined with a congress in the Oscar Auditorium.
