Stavelot is situated in the midst of protected natural surroundings, close to the famous Spa-Francorchamps racetrack. The Abbey was completely renovated by the Walloon Region between 1999 and 2002 . The architects restored the monastery to contemporary standards by building a new wing made of glass and stainless steel.
Three new and fascinating museums were inaugurated; one of them the Spa-Francorchamps Racetrack Museum, an absolute must for car lovers. The Museum, located in the Abbey’s magnificent vaulted cellars, retraces the prestigious history of the track. Famous names, from the pioneers to the present day: Ferrari, March, Chevron, Porsche, Cooper … are all present and are the magnificent backdrop for the ultimate car lover’s cocktail or dinner party!
