New hotel in Ghent post office
End of summer MICE party
Ghent post office

1898 The Post – referencing the year of the building’s construction – is a new hotel housed in the two top floors of the old post building on the Korenmarkt in Ghent.

This imposing neo-gothic venue was under redevelopment for almost two years and the end results are spectacular. It’s now a luxury hotel with 38 beautiful rooms, all finished with lot of respect for the history of the original building.

Seauton is organising a MICE get together in Genk on 21 September this year. It will be the perfect moment to celebrate the end of the summer season and the only focus will be to have fun and meet your colleagues. Nice cocktails, nice music and nice people.

The party starts at 7.30 pm at Thor Park ( Tickets are on sale now and are limited due to the exclusivity of the location.

Star level catering at home or on location
Japanese food with a twist
Wim Van Damme

Wim Van Damme was once the youngest Belgian chef to ever earn a Michelin star.

Nowadays he caters at exclusive events on several unique locations in Belgium, organises cooking classes and even offers gastronomic trips where he’ll cook for you in every corner of Europe and even Iran.

Also very special is to have a fine dining experience (truffles, caviar,..) in Wim’s home in the centre of Ghent. Sometimes he combines dinner with a private concert.

Dimitri Proost

DIM Dining is run by 23 year old chef Dimitri Proost and is one of Antwerp’s most exciting new restaurants.

It’s located on the cosy Vrijdagmarkt and offers Japanese dishes with a western touch.

Proost travelled through Japan extensively and worked at ‘t Fornuis and at Yamazato in Amsterdam (the best Japanese restaurant on the continent) before opening his own business.

Very much worth a visit.

Discover people, not their title

Guess Who?” is a networking dinner with a unique twist: you’ll eat and talk with others without any of the usual obligations. It’s a sort of business blind date where entrepreneurs invite those acquaintances or business partners who they think would do well getting to know each other.

A max of 20 guests are present per evening. The event takes place on different dates and in different locations. Check the website for the full schedule.

Travellr is not an app for easy hook-ups while on holiday – sorry. Instead it’s an application developed by TUI for people in need of a vacation who are lacking inspiration.

You put in your budget and how long you want to go and then the app allows you to swipe between thousands of Instagram pictures made by other travellers. Depending on your swipes, the app will show you your ideal destination.

Guest article: What’s your story?
Guest article: digitalisation or personalisation?

Social media platforms are great for storytelling. They help your company stand out from other brands and competitors and grab the attention of new customers. But before you start, it would be a good idea to build some structure into your story.

Hugo Slimbrouck Most of the greatest writers use the same storytelling techniques, so why shouldn’t you? Ovation DMC’s Hugo Slimbrouck will tell you all about them.

These days, we can do everything ourselves: we book hotels/restaurants online, we talk, mail and pay digitally and in some hotels we can even check in or out by ourselves.

You’d think all of this automation and digitalisation would help the hospitality industry, but does it really? Aren’t we losing the personal aspect of hospitality? Personal service, when done right, is incredibly powerful, and any company would value a loyal customer over one who only consumes the product or service.

Tim van der Pas (Booking Manager Efficient Hotel Partner) will delve a bit deeper into this topic after the jump. Click here.

Apollo hotel Vinkeveen Amsterdam
Apollo Apollo Apollo

BBT Online spent the weekend in this lovely hotel opened in April, quite close to Amsterdam but in the middle of the Vinkeveense Plassen – a beautiful nature reserve.

When the weather allows it, you feel like you are on Ibiza: you have dinner along the water; you can go for speedboat rides and even arrive at the hotel per boat.

The price/quality ratio is excellent and the area offers plenty of wonderful biking routes (you can rent bicycles at the hotel). Great venue for business, leisure and MICE.

Dinner with a view
Floor17 Floor17

On our second night in Amsterdam, we had dinner at Restaurant Floor17 – a great restaurant on the 17th floor of the Ramada Apollo Amsterdam Centre Hotel near the Rembrandt Park, offering splendid 360° views over the city. You can choose between a 3, 4, 5, 6 or even a 7 course menu. We chose 4 courses. The food (and service) is at Michelin level. Who said again that you cannot eat well in the Netherlands?

Before dinner, you can enjoy a nice cocktail at the rooftop bar one floor above the restaurant. Not to be missed!

Budapest Budapest Budapest

Last month, BBT Online travelled to Hungary for a famtrip in beautiful Budapest. The trip was organised by Ovation Global DMC, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Microcosmos DMC Budapest and SN Brussels Airlines.

We would be in the Hungarian capital for less than three full days, which meant we would spend our time wisely and experience a wide array of locations and activities as efficiently as humanly possible. It turned out to be a lot of fun.
