From 20 to 24 February, the second edition of MICEllorca will take place on (obviously) Mallorca. This year, the bicycle event led by Eventonline’s Erik Wood will be organised in favour of cancer research.

None other than multiple world and national champion Sven Nys will be part of the event and will give a keynote speech on the leading factors of his successes. 23 cyclists & Nys will take part and are looking to raise € 20,000 euros for charity.

From 31 January to 4 February, Ghent will be visible from the International Space Station. Not because someone will set it on fire, but because its beautiful light festival will turn the city in a true spectacle every evening: light art, installations, videomapping; you name it.

Exquisite garden parties

Jardin d’Amis is a beautiful garden in Ghent that can be rented and decorated for all sorts of tailor-made parties and events. The space can accommodate 40 to 150 people. 50 of them can sit in the nicely furbished greenhouse, and when the weather is bad, large tents can be provided.

A spacious terrace, an outside bar, decorative lighting and fire pits are all available. Catering is provided by the venue itself. Jardin d’Amis is part of Alix. You can get a fresh and local lunch here every weekday from 12 to 2 pm.

MeetinGent held a discovery day on 26 September, which attracted no less than 40 meeting and event buyers to the city hoping to discover its newest and most surprising venues.

They combine 80 years of experience and deliver on location all over the world, service included. The tents range in capacity from 180 to 1,300 people, come with sturdy floors and seating areas and can be equipped as needed.

Belgium is discovering Slovenia. The number of Belgian tourists visiting the greenest country in the Balkans rose with 14% compared to last year. Numbers for 2017 are even more promising: an increase of 28% in the first seven months.
The Dutch university city of Leiden is planning what they call the best Christmas market on the continent: a light parade, a historical carnival and a floating ice rink will sure help to achieve that goal. Click here for more info.
De Biesbosch, a national park close to Rotterdam, now offers a new activity: eco-painting. You won’t get any paint for your artwork here. Instead you’ll have to venture into the forest and find all of the natural ingredients you need by yourself. A very different form of “landscape painting” it seems.

KiosKafé is an event venue in a renovated farm estate located in a beautiful garden in Poppel (close to Turnhout and the Dutch border). It can accommodate up to 250 guests for a variety of events and activities.
Cinema ZED is a movie theatre in the centre of Leuven. The theatre halls are suitable for congresses and events, and obviously come with the best image and sound technology. The halls have either 147 or 68 places, and are less than a 10 minute walk away from the Old Market.
Congress Centre Lamot in Mechelen is investing in its auditorium, giving it a technical, practical and ecological facelift so it can stay competitive in the years to come.
With three themed gardens spread over 1.5 acres on the 6th floor of a building in west London, live flamingos and over 60 full-size trees, The Roof Gardens is one of the British capital’s most unique event spaces. It’s owned by Richard Branson, comes with a restaurant and turns into a night club on Friday and Saturday night.
Oceandiva, a floating event location for international corporate events, will extend its activities to London in 2019. Of course the current landing sites in Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany will remain open. allows you to completely privatise a traditional little water town in Friesland for events of up to 1,200 people. You could become the mayor for a day.

The Vanmoerkerke family, owners of the Thermae Palace Hotel in Ostend, want to thoroughly renovate the place. They are ready to invest 70-80 million euros and want to offer a true experience instead of just a hotel stay. A large wellness area will be added, as well as private living spaces. Funds are still being gathered though, and banks and the government are needed to make it happen.
Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre opened a unique game room called “Time4Fun”. It will serve as the perfect place for teambuilding sessions during a meeting or conference. It comes with a professional shuffleboard, a giant table soccer table, darts and VR-equipment.
Charles' Home offers top-of-the-range furnished rental apartments in Brussels for short term stays. Perfect if you really want to feel at home while on a business trip.
The Greenhouse Café in Berchem, Antwerp, is a lovely location for lunches and afterwork drinks, and can also be rented as an event space on weekday evenings and in the weekend. Catering is taken care of by the owners.
The new Hard Rock Café on the Groenplaats in Antwerp, celebrated its official opening with a big party on the entire square: DJs, drum and guitar clinics, cocktails and finger food. HRC Antwerp is of course also available for events and workshops.
Queen A Antwerp, will change its name into Hotel Indigo Antwerp – City Center. The rooms will also be equipped with new rain showers and bigger TVs. There will also be a new terrace.
Ecorkhotel, Suites & Spa in the beautiful Alentejo region of Portugal, is the world’s first cork design hotel. Basically the whole hotel was built and decorated with local cork, which makes for a very energy efficient venue. It also looks amazingly alien.
Also in the Alentejo is Casas Brancas (literally: white houses): a tourism network offering several hotels, venues and activities focused on sustainable and creative tourism. Basically the network strengthens the local economy and projects, and makes visitors feel part of the community.

Accor acquired 50% of the Orient Express shares – the iconic luxury train travel brand. It will further exploit the brand and will open several luxury hotels carrying the name.

The Hi Belgium Pass, a joint project by Brussels Airlines, Brussels Airport, NMBS and several tourist offices to allow more Europeans to discover Belgium, proved to be a success. That’s why it got expanded with six new Belgian cities and their major sights, bringing the total up to 13.
After a ten day voting round, it was decided the Smurfs would become Brussels Airlines’ fifth Belgian Icon. This means one BA’s Airbusses will soon get completely Smurfed up with a brand new coat of paint. The four previous icons were Tintin, Magritte, the Red Devils and Tomorrowland.
Brussels Airlines will offer ten new destinations in several different countries this winter season: Tunisia, Cape Verde (2), Egypt (2), Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Morocco, Almeria and Palma de Mallorca
As from next year, KLM and TUI will offer marathon travel packages. The offer aims at a growing group of international marathon runners and their fans, and will consist of a flight, a starting permit for the competition and accommodation.
