Chateau d’Eau next to Brussels Airport
HangarBizarre – new venue
Chateau d’Eau

Chateau d’Eau is unique in Europe! Overlooking the Brussels airport, offering a “first class” spectacle of airplanes touching down, the chateau d’eau is located in green surroundings, as far as the eye can reach.

Chateau d’eau has panoramic views at each floor and a roof terrace at 30m above ground level. The venue is ideal for photo shoots, small corporate events, meetings and press conferences, etc..

Behind this link you can find the brochure with some great pictures from the inside.

Original. Spontaneous. Personal. And most of all a surprisingly modern location: that is what HangarBizarre is all about. A new space of 170m², designed to make your conference, workshop, seminar or event a success.

Only 10 minutes away from the train station Gent-Sint-Pieters, and with the E40 and E17 at a very short distance, HangarBizarre is perfectly located just outside Ghent, with lots of parking space in the neighborhood.
The Bowery – where fashion and food meet

Fashionistas have long found the way to the Premium Store on Chaussee de Louvain in Brussels, now foodies can also add this address to their listing of restaurants.

The Bowery restaurant
is of course much more than a “post-shopping stop”. The young French chef Benjamin Laborie has created a varied menu and makes the meal a total experience. Definitely a place to discover, but be warned, the shop is tempting as well!

MPI Belgium – “under new management”

MPI BelgiumIn September the Belgian Chapter of MPI organized its first educational since the reshuffle at the top. Under new President Gemmeke de Jongh and her board, not only has the website been totally revamped (, but it seems that they are determined to drive up the membership and offer a busy agenda of activities for both members and non-members.

At the Antwerp educational on September, 17 there was certainly a buzz in the room and not only an even spread of planners and suppliers but also of members and non-members. The new Board has every intention of making a successful go of it and one thing is for sure, you cannot fault the enthusiasm!

Of the 69 subscribers to this first event, 4 were a no-show and this unacceptable attitude, certainly of event organizers and suppliers, is a problem which will be addressed even more in the future as MPI wants to follow the trend of sustainability in the meeting industry.

Mice BeStarted by Dorothee Flament who, with more than 20 years experience in the MICE industry in Belgium, can provide some excellent guidance for organizers. The website tells you practical details about Belgium and provides lists of potential partners and suppliers each with their own specific unique selling points.

On September 11th the new B2B social network for the travel specialist in BelgiumTravelClan – was launched and within a week nearly 700 people registered on the website, quite an TravelClanachievement.

But it proves that the industry has a need of this sort of communication platform which can coexist peacefully with existing publications. TravelClan is more than a travel copy of Facebook or LinkedIn, it’s also fun and full of interesting information. Its company pages give travel companies a unique possibility of bringing their latest news and products to the specialist.

Last Minute Meeting Room dot com – an initiative that had to happen!

Many have thought of it, but Thierry Vermeiren and the team of made it bookinghappen. A website, for the moment only with Belgian content but rapidly expanding to the neighboring countries and further, where planners can find and book meeting facilities.

Today after only a few months, there are already more than 220 venues online with another 170 in the pipeline to come on line shortly.

What’s so special about this handy website: planners can view different venues and when their choice is made and availability has been checked, they can book all in real time and get immediate confirmation. Ideal for the planners who always have to work under time pressure and often have to find appropriate venues at short notice.

And as far as the venues are concerned, this website can be seen as their extra salesperson to fill the smaller meeting rooms, ideal no?

What happens when 3 art cities work together?

Early September Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges organized a – successful- educational trip for 25 Dutch managers to discover their cities and to introduce them to the MICE possibilities on offer.

It was a whirlwind tour, expertly organized and with plenty of original twists showing off new venues such as the Badboot in Antwerp, the Historium in Bruges and the Zebra project in Ghent. An initiative not only appreciated by the visitors but proof that within relatively short distance Flanders is very rich in original, historic or brand new venues and ideas for MICE organizers. - -

Wish we were here: Sweden differently

Far from the busy urban hum of Stockholm, in a north-eastern corner of the island of Gotland, lies the remote peninsula of Furillen, still largely unknown to tourists. This is the Sweden of Stieg Larsson, of Ingmar Bergman (indeed, the famed director lived nearby) – wild, romantic, filled with brutal beauty.

A high-speed ferry or plane from the Swedish mainland takes you to the medieval city of Visby, a Unesco World Heritage site surrounded by ancient stone walls. From there, it’s a 45-kilometer drive to the hotel: the Fabriken Furillen, a lime factory and eco-friendly design masterpiece created by photographer Johan Hellstrom.

Fabriken Furillen is a member of Design Hotels.
